EMPOWERING STUDENT VOICES THROUGH DIGITAL STORYTELLING
Escape Rooms
Storytelling comes in many forms, and StoryBytes upholds that belief through its digital escape rooms. By merging a compelling narrative and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with game-based storytelling, these experiences create innovative ways to enjoy literature and explore topics such as social justice, sustainability, and freedom of speech. If you find yourself with a free Sunday afternoon and a cup of coffee in hand, these escape rooms offer a meaningful way to spend your time. To begin playing, simply click on the image of the escape room you would like to explore. Feel free to ask your friends to join.

Before the Games is an escape room that drops players into Panem before the Hunger Games existed—when people still believed in rights like free speech and a free press. Inspired by The Hunger Games, the experience asks a simple but unsettling question: how do societies lose their freedoms without realizing it?
Players become journalists, historians, and citizens trying to recover pieces of Panem’s forgotten past. Through puzzles like coded messages, censored headlines, and hidden documents, teams work to uncover banned ideas and rebuild the rights that are slowly being erased. Each challenge connects to a First Amendment value, showing how silence, fear, and obedience allow power to grow.
As the room unfolds, players see propaganda replace truth and censorship reshape language. The story draws clear parallels between Panem and real moments in history where people claimed they had “no choice” but to comply.
